Line Mechanic Qualifications

The line mechanic pathways include qualifications as a line mechanic and distribution or transmission and also includes fault response and switching.

New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution Live Work) level 5

This qualification will cover the competencies required to undertake live work as a line mechanic in the distribution sector. Trainees will learn how to undertake stick, and glove and barrier techniques.​

New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Fault Response) level 4

This qualification will cover the competencies required to undertake fault response and field switching within the sector.  it is excpected that this qualification will have a common core and a trainee will be required to select a strand in either Distribution Fault Response;  or Distribution Switching; or Transmission Fault Response; or Transmission Switching.
​An industry steering group will be convened shortly to develop the Distribution Faultman qualification together with the Field Switcher qualification.
